Pontus Avernes is an Artificial World,[1b] located in the far east of the Ultima Segmentum near the borders of Ultramar.[1a]

The world is believed to have been built during the Dark Age of Technology by humans. It is placed in a rare area of still void in the system, a Lagrange point, and is held in place by the gravity of the four suns of the star system.[1b] It's the location of an ancient webway nexus from the days before the Age of Strife.[1a] The location appears to have some sort of diplomatic venue once used by ancient humanity and the Aeldari, as speculated by Belisarius Cawl. Due to the presence of the webway gate made by ancient humans. In addition, he posits that the world being a serene and lush garden surrounded by the dramatic solar fire was all to impress the Aeldari.[1e]
It is a flat disc where only one side is habitable. It was discovered by the Imperium in M39.365 by an explorator fleet originating from Tigrus but operating under a license from Mars.[1b]
Pontus Avernes is an idyllic world of rolling hills, small mountains, and lakes. The majority of the verdant world is rolling moors and golden grasslands.[1b][1c]

In M42, Archmagos Dominus Belisarius Cawl would invite Mechanicus representative of various Forge Worlds to attend a meeting Cawl had dubbed the Conclave Chronalis.[1d]
