Poul Grevan[Note 1] was a machine smith who lived and worked in the city of Urbitane on the planet Sameter. He was one of the victims of a string of serial murders that swept Urbitane in the year 241.M41.[1]

He was last seen alive on the 19th of Aquiarae (by Sameter's local calendar). Although he was not the first victim to die, Grevan was the first to be discovered by the city's Arbites garrison, after he was fished from the bay outside Urbitane on the 22nd of Aquiarae. Initially it was assumed that Grevan had committed suicide and the mutilated state of his corpse was attributed to his body being caught in the screws of a passing boat. However, after the discovery of Luthar Hewall's and Idilane Fasple's bodies and their similar causes of death, Arbites Captain Hurlie Wrex reexamined Grevan's case and determined that his death was connected to the others.[1]

Both Captain Wrex and Minister Hansaard believed that the ritualistic nature of the killings indicated the presence of a heretic cult active in Urbitane. Following an investigation by Inquisitor Gregor Eisenhorn, however, he determined that the "cultists" were in fact veteran Imperial Guardsmen who, afflicted with severe shellshock, believed that their victims (including Grevan) were heretics and executed them.[1]

Notes

  • Note 1: In a number of places in the source, Grevan's name is given as Graven. This is presumably a spelling error (possibly caused by an unwanted autocorrection).
