Overview
Saim-Hann (literally, "Quest for Enlightenment/Secret Knowledge/Snake") is regarded by other Craftworlds as anything from a slightly wild and dangerous place, to a nest of feral barbarians living on the edge of Eldar society. They have developed the Path of the Eldar in a much more flexible way than other Eldar. On Saim-Hann, the Path is still a form of control over Eldar life, but it allows Eldar to experience the more wild and carefree ways of old. This practice is regarded by other Eldar as being dangerous, as it was just those sorts of feelings and experiences that led to the Fall of the Eldar. Saim-Hann still maintains many links with the somewhat primitive Exodites.[5a][21]
The Warriors of Saim-Hann are proud, boisterous and aggressive, and use fast, mobile troops with a high quantity of Jetbikes. Young Guardians are always trying to outdo each other in contests of speed, and particularly in battle. Their symbol is the Cosmic Serpent, and they wear red armour with contrasting black and white detailing. They also tend to use striping techniques on their vehicles.[2][21]
Wild Riders
Almost every member of Saim-Hann is part of a Wild Rider family/clan, including the seers, and this allows them to field many specialists who ride Jetbikes and Vypers. The families maintain a feudal hierarchy ruled by one Eldar and the rule is passed down through hereditary tradition. The closest family to the "Chief" become the Kinsmen, who form the ruling elite of the family. The families will decide for themselves whether to go to war and the Kinsmen will then guide the chief in battle[5a] in his role as Autarch.[30]
Some families also fight with each other, although they usually take the form of a ritual single combat between champions. These contests are not uncommon, although fights to the death are very rare as first blood is usually sufficient to determine a winner.[5a]
History
Fall of the Eldar
It is said that Saim-Hann was one of the first Craftworlds to escape the Eldar homeworlds before the birth of Slaanesh.[2]
Sometime not long after the Fall of the Eldar, Craftworld Kaelor for unknown reasons traveled onto a direct collision course with Saim-Hann within the Webway, and for even less known reasons launched military action against Saim-Hann. Kaelor poems of the "Craftwar" tell of the intervention of the Lhykosidae, the Warp Spider Warp Entity which acts as the agent of their Infinity Circuit to end conflict – though wounds were felt much greater by Kaelor than Saim-Hann: their Craftworld was rent in half, only surviving through the sacrifice of their greatest Psyker and it has never since dared to re-enter the Webway.[28]
Recent History
Between 487.M39 and 492.M39 the Windriders of Saim-Hann engaged in a five year campaign to exterminated the Slaaneshi Prince Lilesh Snarelust from the imperial worlds near the Moon of Nightmares, ending only when Nuadhu pierced the heart of Snarelust with the Celestial Lance.[2]
At the turn of the 8th Century M41, Exarch Triadhu Firesong appeared on the world of Lelialthar to issue a warning to the "Iron Blood" tribesmen (and the Black Templars which recruited from among the tribesmen): leave or die. The tribes did not flee, and a Warhost descended to rid the world of the Human influence.[29]
In 786.M41 Autarch Eliac Zephyrblade invaded the Maiden World of Gnosis Prime after issuing an ultimatum to the Imperials who had occupied the world for the previous twelve hundred years. Zephyrblade's Windriders cripple the world's industrial centers before inviting Drukhari forces to finish the Scouring of Gnosis.[2]
Dathedian
Saim-Hann was visited by Yvraine and the Ynnari who asked for to meet by the ritual bonfire of their Speaking Palace to urge the Autarchs of the warrior clans to commit to her cause. It was in the heart of this meeting place that Drazhar launched a raid from a long-forgotten Webway Portal to strike at Yvraine. Three Autarchs were killed in the first volley of fire, and one more fell by Drazhar's blade before the intervention of Jain Zar ended the Raid on Saim-Hann.[30]

Rune Symbol
The symbol of Saim-Hann, the Cosmic Serpent, is the only creature believed by the Eldar to exist both in the Materium and Immaterium at the same time. Hence, the serpent is said to know all secrets, past and present.[2] The Cosmic Serpent is the brother of Shaimesh, a Dark Muse of poison and assassins, telling of a darker heritage.[3]

Trivia
- Samhain is both a Celtic festival similar to a New Years holiday (Oct 31st-Nov 1st), meaning more generally the first of November. Samhain is also, by extension, the Irish name for the Gregorian month of November.
