Vyper
Vypers are larger versions of the Eldar Jetbike which act as mobile weapon platforms.
Overview
First created by artisans of the Saim-Hann Craftworld as light skimmers designed to keep pace with the jetbike-mounted units of their Windrider Host, and so versatile have they proven that they have found their way into many other Craftworld and Corsair armouries.[5]
Unlike the standard jetbike, Vypers are operated by two crew, a gunner and a pilot, who share a psychic bond which allows them to better coordinate their actions; it is common for Vyper crews to be blood relatives. Vypers are not heavily armoured, relying on their blistering speed rather than any amount of plating, but mount weapons more commonly found on larger battle tanks: in addition to twin-linked Shuriken Catapults, which can be replaced with a Shuriken Cannon, the rear heavy weapons mount can carry a Shuriken Cannon, Eldar Missile Launcher, Scatter Laser, Starcannon, or Bright Lance.[1][2a][2b]
Vypers are as often in squadrons of two to three vehicles as they are on their own, which when well-trained act as one, capable of redeploying in seconds to find the vulnerable spots in enemy armour or escape interceptors attempting to close with it. Notoriously reticent to close with the enemy, Vypers work best at range. They can also be upgraded with Vectored Engines, Star Engines, Holo-Fields, and Spirit Stones.[2a][3]
Variants
Starfang
The Starfang is a modified version of the Vyper, that is used by Eldar Corsairs. It replaces the Vyper's standard armaments with deadly Drukhari weapons: a Disintegrator Cannon and a Hallucinogen Grenade launcher.[3] Starfangs are commonly used to support landing parties, using their Smoke Grenades to provide visual cover for landing parties and manufacturing landing opportunities for Skyreavers with their powerful Disintegrator Cannon.[6]
