Cosmic Serpent
The Cosmic Serpent, also known as Dromlach[3] or Saim[4], is a significant legendary figure in Eldar myth. It is said to have existed in both the material and psychic realms at the same time.[3a]
Dromlach, the Cosmic Serpent, is also described in various other mythologies, creation myths, and folk legends, including that of the native Baalite religion. Dromlach is used as a metaphor for death by various cultures, a symbol of the journey from one state of existence to another. Dromlach is described as having been born of belief, and exists outside of time of space.[3a] The Eye of Dromlach, a location referenced by Inquisitor Bronislaw Czevak, is an Aeldari site of great importance that contains a Webway Gate.[3b]
The Cosmic Serpent is the symbol and namesake of the Eldar Craftworld Saim-Hann,[2] where "Saim" is an Eldar Word meaning both "snake" and "secret knowledge" and his rune communicates both concepts.[7]
Children
The Cosmic Serpent was said to have a unique relationship with Cegorach and his Harlequins; the serpent befriended the Laughing God and freely gave his aid, even allowing him to ride upon his back.[1] The Harlequins name their vehicles for the Serpent's brood, the Weaver Serpents: Starweaver, Voidweaver, and Skyweaver.[5]
Saim's children, the dragons, are the namesake of the Fire Dragons.[6] It is unclear if these mythical dragons are related to Exodite dragons.
Trivia
It is implied but unstated that the "Serpent of Teirtu" which serves as the crest of House Teirtu of Kaelor is the Cosmic Serpent.[8]
