The Silver Templars, known also as the Swords of Novaris[4d] are an Ultramarines Successor Chapter.[1]
Contents
Overview
They are noted as being amongst the first Primaris Chapters created during the Ultima Founding.[3a] While most Successor Chapters of the Ultramarines are well-disciplined tacticians, the Silver Templars are famed for their audacity, daring and being incredibly skilled duellists.[1]
The Silver Templars have gained a reputation as cold and utterly focused warriors who display little emotion. They are expert duelists, preferring to select a single target and focus their attention on eliminating chosen opponents before selecting a fresh target. Silver Templars strategy often revolves around carving a path to enemy leaders, so that their most powerful warriors can engage the foe in a duel of death. They are also accomplished weaponsmiths, often crafting their own weapons and establishing a link with its Machine Spirit known as the Bond Martial. Once this bond is established, a Silver Templar will devote himself to mastering the weapon's use. Losing a bonded weapon is a mark of shame in the Chapter and they will go to great lengths to reclaim any lost item.[4d]
Notable Battles
- The Liberation of Novaris — The newly created Silver Templars under Akilios Zanaris leads the Chapter to Novaris, finding it has been enslaved by the Flawless Host. Captain Ducas of the 1st Company defeats the Flawless Host leader Lyrius Soulslaver in a duel that lasted more than a day. With Soulslaver dead the war is soon won, but a quarter of Novaris' population lay dead.[4d]
- Battling Vormir the Ascendant's heretic forces on the Ecclesiarchy world of Umbris, alongside the Order of Our Martyred Lady.[4d][6a]
- Sometime after the formation of the Great Rift, the Ork Painboy Grotsnik led a warband of Painboyz, Cyborks, and modified Killa Kans upon a Silver Templars Strike Cruiser. He seized a number of Primaris Space Marines alive, though what he intends to do with them is best not imagined.[2]
- The Battle of Brassicus[3a]
- Battle of Orman's Hearth - The Silver Templars battle the Speedwaagh! of Rargukk on the Agri-World of Orman's Hearth.[4d][6a]
- Assault on Necthis - The 2nd and 3rd Companies under Chief Librarian Ionnas are deployed to battle Orks.[4f]
- The Octarius War[7]
- The Nachmund Rift War[8]
- The Plague Wars - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Companies dispatched to Ultramar under Chapter Master Zanaris.[4d]
- The Siege of Talasa Secundus - The 3rd Company under Captain Petricias disobeys direct orders from the Novamarines, killing a Death Guard Lord of Contagion but seeing many of their unsupported allies die. The incident creates tensions between the Templars and Novamarines.[1d]
- At some point after the Plague Wars, Forces under Lieutenant Retsos were ambushed by the Dark Eldar and the Silver Templars officer lost his weapon. Retsos obsessively hunted the Xenos to reclaim his honour for months. He eventually caught up with the raiders, slaying scores of the aliens, and reclaimed the weapon from their dead Archon.[4d]
