Founding Chapter: Ultramarines[3a]

Chapter Master: Ansellus

Colours: White and light blue quartered[6]

The Sons of Guilliman were a Successor Chapter of the Ultramarines.[3a]

Overview

Hailing from the desert-ringed Death World of Praesidia, the Chapter had a dark past. Whispers persist that more than one of its members had fallen to Chaos and that the Chapter had a reputation for rash and codex-divergent behaviour. This reputation, however, saw them fight all the harder to prove themselves worthy of their name.[8]

Heraldry

Marines of the Chapter wear quartered blue-and-white armour.[8]

Company colours are shown through the colour of the left kneepad.[8][Conflicting Sources] Battlefield role insignia is usually blue. Rather than displaying squad number over the battlefield role symbol, Sons of Guilliman instead display the number in the bottom right corner of their pauldrons, next to the Chapter's symbol.[8]

The Sons of Guilliman's Chapter badge combines an Ultima with a set of wings.[8]

Trivia

Conflicting sources

Different sources give different information on how the Sons of Guilliman display Company affiliation on their armour:

  • Multiple sources indicate that Sons of Guilliman company markings are displayed in the form of a coloured left kneepad in the company colour.[8][9][10]
  • However, other sources indicate that company markings are in the form of pauldron trims coloured the company colour (including page 85 of Adeptus Astartes: Successor Chapters, which shows an example Sons of Guilliman pauldron trimmed in gold, directly contradicting an image shown below of a 3rd Company marine with uncoloured pauldrons).[10] Additionally, an Armies on Parade army by James Karch contained marines with gold-trimmed pauldrons and uncoloured kneepads.text-middle[Help]
  • How to Paint Space Marines shows a Sons of Guilliman marine with no discernable company markings whatsoever, lacking both coloured kneepad and pauldron trims. Additionally, this marine lacks a squad number, but has a Battleline battlefield role icon.[6]
  • A piece of artwork from Codex: Space Marines (9th Edition) shows marines with white trims (which would otherwise suggest 1st Company) but red kneepads (meaning 3rd Company).[9]
