Talin Sherax is a Tech Priest who has lived several centuries2e and was appointed to the command of the Peregrinus 27 Martian years prior to the destruction of Gryphonne IV.2b During that time she was a member of Explorator Fleet Rhi-Alpha-2 and her liege lord, mentor, and sponsor was Lord Explorator Satavic Yuel.2f Talin's oldest colleague is her current cheif datamancer, Cogitatrix Thess Rahn-Bo. Both Thess and Talin served as initiates aboard the Peregrinus concurrently when they first met. By the time Gryphonne IV fell, they had known each other for almost two centuries.1i Her two closest colleagues over these initial years serving in Explorator Fleet Rhi-Alpha-2, was Rahn-Bo and techseer Erasmus Luren with whom she'd share vibrant dialogues without reservation or misgivings about their meticulous work amongst Lord Explorator Yuel's fleet. Talin Sherax had received several injunctions from seniors within the Explorator Order to correct what they viewed as an overly deliberate, even unhurried, approach to her holy work.2h
Protector Phocon Xal is the devoted lifeward of Talin Sherax. He is a closely trusted Skitarii with whom Sherax trusts her life. His function is to guard Sherax2d and by extension her colleagues. He was appointed to the role 52 Martian years prior to their expedition into the Space Hulk, Misery's Daughter. The role of Protector affords the skittarii skitarii access to Sherax's Noospheric communion, a mental link shared between herself and her close colleagues. During Sherax's initial years as explorator superior, Xal had been remained steadfast in his role as an impartial protector and tended to take little part in the dialogue held between Sherax's closest colleagues.2h
Explorator Sherax had little patience for the constant squabbles of her peers. Her distaste for politics and her own admitted lack of skill as a politician had been a significant factor in her decision to join the Explorator order. Out among the stars, there were fewer opportunities to run afoul of another magos’ ambitions and agendas.2e
