Talin Sherax is a Tech Priest who has lived several centuries[2e] and was appointed to the command of the Peregrinus 27 Martian years (~50.76 Terran standard years) prior to the destruction of Gryphonne IV.[2b] During that time she was a member of Explorator Fleet Rhi-Alpha-2 and her liege lord, mentor, and sponsor was Lord Explorator Satavic Yuel.[2f] Talin's oldest colleague is her current cheif datamancer, Cogitatrix Thess Rahn-Bo. Both Thess and Talin served as initiates aboard the Peregrinus concurrently when they first met. By the time Gryphonne IV fell, they had known each other for almost two centuries.[1i] Her two closest colleagues over these initial years serving in Explorator Fleet Rhi-Alpha-2, was Rahn-Bo and techseer Erasmus Luren with whom she'd share vibrant dialogues without reservation or misgivings about their meticulous work amongst Lord Explorator Yuel's fleet. Talin Sherax had received several injunctions from seniors within the Explorator Order to correct what they viewed as an overly deliberate, even unhurried, approach to her holy work.[2h]

Protector Phocon Xal is the devoted lifeward of Talin Sherax. He is a closely trusted Skitarii with whom Sherax trusts her life. His function is to guard Sherax[2d] and by extension her colleagues. He was appointed to the role 52 Martian years (~97.76 Terran standard years) prior to their expedition into the Space Hulk, Misery's Daughter. The role of Protector affords the skitarii access to Sherax's Noospheric communion, a mental link shared between herself and her close colleagues. During Sherax's initial years as explorator superior, Xal had been remained steadfast in his role as an impartial protector and tended to take little part in the dialogue held between Sherax's closest colleagues.[2h]

Explorator Sherax had little patience for the constant squabbles of her peers. Her distaste for politics and her own admitted lack of skill as a politician had been a significant factor in her decision to join the Explorator order. Out among the stars, there were fewer opportunities to run afoul of another magos’ ambitions and agendas.[2e]

Sherax's self-imposed isolation began long before the fall of her home world and had led to a reputation for haughty indifference that had undoubtedly harmed her standing within the hierarchy of Gryphonnen magi. She had few bonds of fellowship or commonality, even with the fraternity of explorators. Many junior adepts had left the Peregrinus after only a decade or two of service, requesting reassignment to other vessels that might present them with greater opportunities to earn the attention of their superiors.[2e]

The Fall of Gryphonne IV

In the wake of Gryphonne IV's destruction, the diaspora fleet made up of the remnants of their fallen empire would flee the Gryphonne System in a caravan of ships thousands of miles long. With the Ark Mechanicus vessel the Logos and it's remaining guardian battlefleet as the vanguard, it lead the train of ships to the system's secondary Mandeville Point.[2c] During this time and alongside, for six days she bears witness to the ruination of her homeworld. This would sap her fortitude and shake her faith in the Omnissiah, a god whom she felt had abandoned her people.[2d]

Post Fall

Before the Fall of Gryphonne IV, Talin Sherax had received several injunctions from seniors within the Explorator Order to correct what they viewed as an overly deliberate, even unhurried, approach to her holy work. After the fall of the forge-cradle, her conduct would change drastically with her adhering to a more direct and impatient behavioural template. The ductrix's conversations with her close collaegues would also become more reserved in the recent years after the fall.[2h]

In the Era Indomitus and 3 Martian years, or 6 Terran years, after she witnessed the destruction of her homeworld, Explorator Sherax would delve into the Space Hulk known as Misery's Daughter.[2g] The location of which she had learned from the Augur skills of Magos Lyterix.[2f] This would be Sherax's third expedition into a Space Hulk since her ascension to of the role of Ductrix of the Peregrinus. As done in prior expeditions, the standard procedure for Adeptus Echanicus expeditions into Space Hulks is to first disable any Warp Engines to prevent any from misfiring without warning and ending the its nomadic wandering.[2h]

Explorator Sherax's expedition into the wreckage making up Misery's Daughter was in search of a tech-priest and a strange artifact. She was in pursuit of a miracle that would be the salvation of her people. They would be found within the wreck of the Almagest, a Magellenic Class Explorator ship, the same pattern of ship that mirrored her own voidship the Peregrinus.

Equipment

Explorator Talin Sherax is equipped with a refractor field and an archeotech pistol.[2h]
