The Mordians encountered heavier than expected resistance while trying to take the capital city of [[Elborescum]]. After some intelligence gathering, the Imperials learned that the heretics had banded together under the banner of a single individual, a [[Rogue Psyker|psyker]] called [[Speccius]]. A team of three [[Imperial Guard Sniper|snipers]] from the Cadian 217th was ordered to infiltrate Elborescum ahead of the next Imperial advance to assassinate Speccius. This team included [[Corporal]] [[Darya Nevic]], a Coclerati [[transplant]] (her officers hoping that her local knowledge would be useful during the mission).{{Fn|1b}}
The snipers successfully infiltrated the city via an abandoned [[maglev]] station.{{Fn|1b}}{{Fn|1c}} As they made their way through the tunnels, they encountered [[Marija Horvat|an Imperial loyalist refugee]] who gave them information on Speccius, including that he was protected by a [[Heretic Astartes]].{{Fn|1c}}{{Fn|1d}} The Guardsmen proceeded into Elborescum proper, with Nevic successfully navigating the maze-like streets to the cathedral that hosted Speccius' base of operations.{{Fn|1e}}{{Fn|1f}}
The mission was successful, but Nevic was the only survivor of the sniper team.{{Fn|1f}}
