Cocleratum is a world of the Imperium.[1a] It is known to raise the Coclerati Janissary regiments for the Astra Militarum.[1b]
History
In the Age of the Dark Imperium, Cocleratum suffered from a heretic uprising that seized control of the world.[1a] Forces of the Indomitus Crusade[1a], including a number of Mordian Iron Guard regiments[1b] and the Cadian 217th, arrived to liberate the planet.[1a]
The Mordians encountered heavier than expected resistance while trying to take the capital city of Elborescum. After some intelligence gathering, the Imperials learned that the heretics had banded together under the banner of a single individual, a psyker called Speccius. A team of three snipers from the Cadian 217th (First Sergeant Ilya, along with Corporal Mir and Corporal Nevic) was ordered to infiltrate Elborescum ahead of the next Imperial advance to assassinate Speccius. Notably Corporal Nevic was chosen as she was a Coclerati transplant (her officers hoping that her local knowledge would be useful during the mission).[1b]
The snipers successfully infiltrated the city via an abandoned maglev station.[1b][1c] As they made their way through the tunnels, they encountered an Imperial loyalist refugee who gave them information on Speccius, including that he was protected by a Heretic Astartes.[1c][1d]
The Guardsmen proceeded into Elborescum proper. They were discovered by the heretics, who pursued them through the streets to the ruined Gardens of the Fountains. There they were confronted by the Heretic Astartes, who gave the order to leave one of the Guardsmen alive and kill the others. During the resulting firefight, Corporal Mir was seized by the Astartes. In an attempt to kill the warrior, Mir detonated a krak charge on his belt.[1e] The resulting blast incinerated Mir[1e] and left the Astartes wounded but not dead.[1g]
Believing that Corporal Nevic had also been killed in the blast[1f], the heretics captured Sergeant Ilya and brought him to the Cathedral of Macharius and the Saints.[1f][1g] Unbeknownst to the heretics, Nevic had survived.[1f] She tracked the heretics to the cathedral and snuck inside disguised as a cultist. There she saw a tortured Ilya being dragged onto the cathedral's altar. Speccius was aware of Nevic's presence in the building, but while he was distracted trying to find her, Ilya pointed to his supplies, which had been left in the room. Nevic understood his message and fired two shots - the first hit Ilya in the chest and killed him instantly, before the second shot detonated the explosives in Ilya's gear and levelled the cathedral. Nevic was the only survivor.[1g]
