Titan Clan
Titan Clans, or Fir Caurifel, are the often-familial Eldar Titan forces of the Craftworlds.[1]
Overview
When an Eldar Titan is created, an Infinity Circuit must be created as well and an Eldar known as a Lord-Phoenix sacrifices themselves in a process known as Soul-Grafting to implant their soul within the carrecenad stone at the centre of the Wraithbone structure. The blood relatives and descendants of the Lord-Phoenix hold especially strong relations to the soul within the titan and come together to serve as its maintenance crew and Steersmen, and to raise in their family future generations of steersmen.[1] On the death of every Steersman, their soul joins with the Infinity Circuit of the Titan and in this way each titan reflects generations of ancestors – this family is known as a Titan Clan.[2]
A family must be truly worthy to be chosen to become a Titan Clan, for within but a few generations a Titan Clan will branch into multiple sub-families as more of its members are chosen for Soul-Grafting and ever more Titans fall into its responsibility. Each Titan Clan is headed by a "High Council", or Rhaghlaidh Caurifel, the collective of the still-living family heads known as Ardathricainn. The unique family dynamic afforded by an Eldar Titan puts the family in responsibility for a major component of the Craftworld's defence, and this affords upon them a great deal of respect within the craftworld's hierarchy.[2] There are only a few remaining Craftworlds with enough resources to support such a conclave, and as such many are nomadic: wandering through the Webway to find the fields of war, taking an honour-bound toll of replacement materials and pilots from the Craftworlds they aid.[5]
Titan Clan family members who are not Steersmen will still serve as Guardians, and it is common for the guardians which pilot War Walkers to be these Eldar taking their first steps towards learning to pilot an Eldar Titan.[4]
