Uphrateus is a Daemon World, that lies near the Eye of Terror.[1]
History
It was once important to the Imperium, as Uphrateus was the Homeworld of the Sentinels of Uphrateus Chapter and was also used as a vital base for guarding against incursions from the forces of Chaos. However in M41 this came to an end, when the Eye of Terror engulfed the world and it became trapped within the giant Warp Rift. This led Uphrateus to become corrupted by the Eye and it soon became home to numerous Chaos invaders. Being engulfed by the Eye of Terror, also led the Imperium to declare that Uphrateus and the Sentinels had been lost.[1]
However, the Sentinels of Uphrateus still lived and, though Uphrateus had fallen, they remained loyal to the Imperium. The Chapter then launched a campaign to reclaim their homeworld from its Chaos invaders. Among them were Word Bearers led by the Chaos Lord Saegius Mindblighter and the Sentinels later invaded his cathedral. In doing so, however, the Chapter weakened the Eye of Terror's grip on Uphrateus and this allowed the world to break free of the Warp Rift. After 200 years, Uphrateus returned to Realspace and the Imperium launched a major operation to reclaim the world and once more use it as a base of operations against Chaos incursions. Upon their arrival, though, the Imperium's forces learned that not only did the loyal Sentinels still live, but that Uphrateus held numerous Chaos forces. Now knowing the true scale of the battle it faced, the Imperium quickly sent two of the Space Wolves' Great Companies and the Eversor Assassin Tormentius to aid in reclaiming Uphrateus.[1]
Known Locations
- Necropolis of the Mindblighter - A vast, cursed and insane necropolis that was built by the Word Bearers on the southern part of the world, after Uphrateus was engulfed by the Eye of Terror. It is ruled by the Chaos Lord Saegius Mindblighter and contains a cathedral, from where he delivers heretical sermons.[1]
