Waite Ryder
Waite Ryder was the Master of the Fleet of the Exorcists Space Marine Chapter during the Badab War.[1]
Overview
He played a crucial strategic and operational role during the Invasion of Pireaus. When Vice-Admiral Kagawa proposed a risky plan to avoid destruction by the Secessionist fleet, Ryder reluctantly agreed, despite the lack of communication with ground forces and the grave risks involved. His compliance enabled the Loyalist fleets to survive long enough for a decisive engagement later.[1]
After the Loyalists won a costly victory in the void and the Secessionist flagship Seraph of Judgement was destroyed, Ryder took command of a desperate and highly audacious rescue operation. With planetary defences disabled, he ordered the battle barge Redeemer to plunge directly into Kritias Secundus’ atmosphere at extreme speed, using its void shields as protection. Guided by psychic targeting from Librarian Taloth, Ryder directed the ship to the heart of the battle, interrupting the duel between Lugft Huron and Carab Culln.[1]
Under intense enemy fire, Ryder oversaw a prolonged and brutal extraction, recovering nearly three-fifths of the surviving Loyalist ground forces, including the critically wounded Lord Commander Culln and Captain Silas Alberec. Despite catastrophic damage to the Redeemer, Ryder successfully escaped orbit, preserving the core of the Loyalist force.[1]
