Yarren
Yarren is a Torathim Guardsman in Colonel Tarvit's Regiment.[1]
History
Before he earned his current rank, Yarren was among the Regiment's Whiteshields. This changed, though, when the Colonel led them into battle against Orks. As the two forces fought, Yarren was among a group of Whiteshields that served in Captain Murdin's Three Platoon. During the battle, a portion of the Xenos forces attacked the Platoon and inflicted heavy losses upon it. Murdin was among those who were killed, while Commissar Traidir was left mortally wounded. As the Orks made ready to attack their position again, Yarren saw this as a chance to prove himself and become a Guardsman. However the Whiteshield would need Three Platoon's commanding officer's permission to do so. With Murdin dead, that position fell to the dying Commissar and he agreed to Yarren's request. Traidir died afterwards and Yarren then led his fellow Whiteshields in destroying the Orks.[1]
Only he and two other Whiteshields survived the attack and they were honoured in a ceremony after the battle. During the ceremony, Colonel Tarvit announced the surviving Whiteshields had earned the right to become Guardsmen. He then said they would be assigned to the Regiment's One Platoon, to replace its losses. Also for Yarren's courage and quick thinking, the new Guardsman would join the Colonel's High Eagle Lodge, under Tarvit's personal patronage. Afterwards Yarren underwent the Torathim ritual of manhood for new Guardsmen. This included being given traditional scars, by a fellow Guardsman with one of their world's hunting knives. The Adjutant Morth did the honours, while Sergeants Raddon and Ferth rubbed black powder into the wounds, to ensure they scarred well. The two Sergeants then escorted Yarren to his Platoon, as he realized that he was truly a warrior now.[1]
