Alphabet
The Kin utilize a Runic-based alphabet system of a vast multitude of symbols. Their symbols carry multilayered meanings to the Kin. They can denote complex hazards, campaign histories, technical information's, and individual signatures.[1a] Some of the runes and letters use stylized Latin symbols.[2]

Language
The Kin are a taciturn people by default, disinclined to waste words. As a result they load simple terms with nuance and as a people descended from nomadic spacefarers they use simple gestures that can be easily transmitted in the airless depths of the void. Subtle hand signals, stances, and raps on equipment all likely evolved from these practical needs of space life but have taken on a broader symbolism. Their language is also prone to use many idioms, the most common and universal of which are dubbed First Truths.[1d]
Kin language is gruff[4a], full of internal rules, and has multi-layered formalities and meanings depending on context.[4b] The Kin seem fond of abbreviations, and will often abbreviate terms in regular use (i.e. Cerebral Unit being shortened to CU[5] or High-Yield Laser being abbreviated to HYLas[1c])
For transliterations, the vowels in Kin words often have accent marks relating to real-life Scandinavian languages.[1c]

Naming Conventions
Each Kin has a first - given - name, and a second - chosen name. The given name is assigned by the Votann Ancestor Core upon their birth, appearing in a small slot in their Crucible moments before their emergence. A given name cannot be changed, for it is the will of the Ancestors. Only Ironkin are permitted to choose their own given names, given they are birthed from Forges instead of Crucibles.[1d]
Being birthed fully developed mentally and physically, Kin can then select a new chosen name for themselves. It may incorporate some component of their Kindred's name, their Hold's, or their League's. Should the Kin wish to express their pride in the institutions they belong to or their family names - chosen names such as Thuûrk and Hûri' are common amongst the Greater Thurian League for instance. Other chosen names reflect a societal role, or a particular talent that they feel defines them. Amongst soldiers, chosen names like Kêynshot and Thûndryk see regular use, while Cthonian Guilds are full of names like Dêlvyr and Strângyrm. There are also instances where new, more descriptive names are chosen as a mark of respect by their fellows, such as 'Ork Bane' or 'The Lucky'. Some kin accumulate several, but will always choose one to be their true chosen name.[1c]
Regardless if organic or Ironkin, Kin names are divided into male or female.[1c]
