Overview
The Razorback is a tracked, armoured vehicle used by Space Marine chapters. Its design is based on the Rhino chassis and as such is quite easy to manufacture. It is sometimes favoured over the Rhino because of its superior firepower, although it comes at the cost of transport space.
History
Origins
It was originally designed prior to the Imperium, during the first expansion of mankind into the galaxy. It was, like all other information, stored on the ancient STC systems, but lost during the Age of Strife.
Military Employment
The Razorback was designed to be a transport, but with more firepower than the basic Rhino. Many Space Marine commanders swear by its extra firepower, saying that it always makes up for its reduced transport capacity.
The Razorback in the 41st Millenium
It was eventually found again in M36 by Chief Artisan Tilius. His quest was to find a fully operational STC system. Because the design was rediscovered after the Horus Heresy, Chaos Space Marines do not get to use it.
Technical Information
Armament
The armament of a Razorback is based on two principles, infantry hunting and tank hunting. To this end, the infantry hunting version is armed with twin-linked Heavy Bolters and these can be upgraded to twin-linked Lascannons. It can also boast a Pintle Mounted Storm Bolter.
Note: Forgeworld have produced Razorback armament varients including: Multi-melta. Also the origional razorback also known as the Mk I had the additional option of mounting a Lascannon and twin-linked Plasmaguns
Armour
The armour of a Razorback is the same as that of a Rhino, quite thin but allowing it extra speed.
Equipment
The Razorback can be upgraded with Dozer Blades, Extra Armour, a Hunter-killer Missile, the Power of the Machine Spirit, Searchlights and Smoke Launchers.
Further Information
Transport Capacity
The capacity of the Razorback is reduced compared to the Rhino, and can carry up to 6 Space Marines in Power Armour but may not carry Terminator Armour.
Fire Points
The Razorback is a fully contained vehicle and has no fire points as the turret takes up the space where a marine could fire from in a Rhino.
Access Points
There are three access points, a hatch on either side and a rear ramp.
