COG

A COG[2d]

COGs are the League of Votann's robot drones that are less complex and intelligent than the Ironkin.[1]

Overview

COGs serve as robotic assistants for Kin of the Leagues of Votann and are usually overseen by a Brôkhyr engineer. Their designs are based upon ancient schematics provided by Kin ancestors, but the Brôkhyr also provide their own individual ingenuity to their design.[2e] COGs are can perform relatively complex tasks, including applying first aid[3c] and operating spacecraft at a base level independently.[3b] However, they nonetheless are far less cognitively advanced than Ironkin, which possess fully sapient Artificial Intelligence.[3a] When not needed, COGs are put into a dormant state by their overseers.[3b]

Known Variations

CORV

Drones that defend the Leagues of Votann's Grimnyrs.[1] They are able to focus energy through their Ancestral Warding Crests to aid them in battle and are equipped with an Autoch-Pattern Bolter.[2c]

E-COG

Hardy drones that defend the Brôkhyr Iron-masters and also aid the engineers in repairing vehicles.[1] They can be equipped with Autoch-Pattern Bolt Pistols[2f] as well as tools, energy shielding, concussive forcefields, Buzzfields, projectile Graviton Weapons, and first aid equipment depending on the mission.[3c] They are also capable of operating defensive turrets.[13d]

L-COG

Drones that assist Cthonian Beserks who wield Mole Grenade Launchers in battle.[2b]

Trivia

  • The term CORV could be a play on Corvus (corax), the Latin name for the Common raven (see also raven-like head decoration of the CORV drone). They likely are a reference to Huginn and Muninn, the raven companions of the Norse god Odin, since the Grimnyr the CORV accompany has several similarities to Odin.
