Bail Sharr is a member of the Carcharodons Space Marine Chapter.[1a]

The current Master of the 3rd Company of the Chapter, Sharr is known as the Reaper Prime. He has overseen the 3rd since the 9th century of the 41st Millennium after Master Akia was killed fighting xenos.[1a]

Biography

Sharr was born as Caderik, grandson of a guildmistress on the mining world of Zartak.[2]

Zartak

Bail Sharr[4j]

Shortly upon being appointed command of the 3rd Company, Sharr was embroiled in a plot by the Night Lords under Amon Cull and the Sorcerer Shadraith to capture a young Psyker named Mika Doren Skell, intending to use him as a conduit in a ritual to summon the Daemon Bar'ghul.[1a] The Night Lords are able to board the penal ship Imperial Truth in pursuit of Skell, then chase him onto the surface of the world of Zartak.[1b] Guided by Chief Librarian Te Kahurangi, Sharr and the rest of the 3rd arrive in the Zartak System while overseeing a collection of new recruits and Chapter Serfs dubbed a "Red Tithe". After purging the Imperial Truth of Daemons, Sharr leads a landing on the surface.[1c] In the battle on the mines beneath Zartak, Amon Cull's Chaos Raptor lieutenant Vorfex collapses the tunnels upon the Carcharodons. Sharr is saved by Company Champion Red Tane as well as the timely arrival of 1st Company Red Brethren Terminators under Kahu.[1d]

As Chief Librarian Kahurangi engages in a psychic struggle with Shadraith, the Carcharodons continue to move across the mining complex in search of Skell. During the battle, Kahu and his Red Brethren are killed by Warp Talons.[1d] Shadraith is eventually able to capture Skell and prepares him for the binding ritual to serve as the vessel to Bar'ghul in the former Arbites Precinct Fortress. The Night Lords are able to hold back the Carcharodons with ambushes, tunnel collapses, and waves of Cultists and released prisoners.[1e] Shadraith is confronted by Te Kahurangi and the two engage in a psychic battle that sees the Carcharodons Chief Librarian defeated and captured for use in the ritual.[1f] Just as victory seems at hand for the Night Lords, Amon Cull arrives and betrays Shadraith in a bid to be contested ruler of the warband. The interference disrupts the ritual, allowing for Skell to momentarily break free and use Te's Force Staff to disrupt the Void Shields of the Fortress. This allows the Carcharodons under Sharr to launch a teleportation assault.[1g]

In the final battle inside the Precinct Fortress, Sharr is incapacitated by Cull and saved by Te, who uses his abilities to crush the Chaos Lord with debris. With their leader dead, Vorfex leads a retreat of the surviving Night Lords. In the aftermath of their victory, the Carcharodons commence their red tithe and take thousands of prisoners, mostly those who had earlier been freed by the Night Lords.[1h] Afterwards, Skell is made into an Aspirant.[1i]

Ashen Claws

Te and Sharr were next dispatched to Atargatis Prime in the Ghoul Stars in an attempt to find the Ashen Claws.[3a] Meeting with the Ashen Claws Chapter Master Nehat Nev, Sharr asks for new recruits and fleet support while Nev demands that Lord Tyberos's Lightning Claws "Hunger" and "Slake", which he considers long-lost relics of the Chapter, be returned in exchange. Sharr refuses, and Nev forces him into a gladiatorial duel against a captured World Eater. Sharr prevails and is allowed to leave for the White Maw in orbit, where he learns from Tyberos that a massive Tyranid fleet is approaching thanks to the presence of a Genestealer Cult on Piety V. Sharr is ordered to Piety to eliminate the cult and divert the Tyranids.[3b]

Sharr, the Lexicanium Khauri, and the 3rd converge on Piety V alongside Inquisitor Nzogwu and his retinue, which are investigating attacks against the Ecclesiarchy leadership there.[3c] Working alongside the Inquisitors, Sharr and his forces are the target of assassination attempts by traitorous Frateris Milia and respond brutally. Their investigation triggers a full Genestealer Cult uprising on the world.[3d]

Sharr and the 3rd hold back waves of Genestealer Cultists at the Cathedral of Saint Solomon as reinforcements arrive in orbit led by the Chapter's Battle Barge/Fortress-Monastery Nicor under Tyberos himself, which begins to battle arriving Tyranid Hive Ships.[3e] As the Imperials seem about to be overwhelmned by the Tyranids, an Ashen Claws fleet arrives and pushes back the Xenos in orbit. Sharr and Khauri continue their fight on land, and the Lexicanium, revealed to be a vessel for Bar'ghul, kills the Genestealer Patriarch.[3f] In the aftermath, much of the violence is blamed on the Carcharodons, who are blamed for a "massacre" by the sole survivor of Nzogwu's retinue, Jade Rannik.[3g]

Void Exile

Following a loss of control and succumbing to a gene-seed flaw known as the "Blindness" on the agri-platforms above the world of Temperance, the 3rd Company experienced a defeat. As punishment, Bail Sharr and his inner circle were designated "void exiles" by the Chapter. They were stripped of their rank and titles and thrown out into the void to fight alone until they inevitably perished.[4a]

As the Blindness continued to eat away at his psyche, Sharr led a suicide mission to the Space Hulk Grim Destiny before it reached the Forge World of Diamantus.[4b] Battling through Daemon Engines and Mutants, the exiles discovered that it was in fact a living machine being grown by disciples of Vashtorr.[4c] Despite fighting through hordes of foes, they were able to reach their primary objective: the ancient Imperial Navy vessel Sire of Belaphrone which had become embedded within the Hulk. Sharr's Techmarine and fellow exile Blood Eye was able to activate the ancient vessels core in hopes of throwing it off-course from Diamantus but were foiled by the Dark Mechanicum Heretek Voldire, who unleashed Scrapcode. Sharr and his squad experienced Power Armour failures and were forced to evacuate as the Grim Destiny broke apart over Diamantus, scattering Voldire's forces across the Forge World.[4d]

Crash-landing on Diamantus in escape pods, Bail Sharr and the Exiles rendezvoused with Carcharodons forces on the surface and battled a Defiler. Chief Librarian Te Kahurangi appeared in the midst of the battle, defeating the Daemon Engine and allowing them to continue to the central citadel to stop Voldire. Along the way, Te challenged the status of Sharr as a void exile and urged him to reclaim his "sight" and lead the company once more.[4e] The group then encountered Company Champion Red Tane, who offered him the relic axe Reaper to wield once more.[4f]

Battling to the ruins of the wreck Sire of Belaphorne in hopes of overloading its engines to destroy Voldire's flesh-ziggurat and foil his ritual, Sharr and Khauri launched a teleportation assault as the Techmarine Blood Eye stayed behind to detonate the engines.[4g] In the final assault, Sharr alongside Kino, Te, Khauri, and the Red Brethren were able to fight their way to Voldire, whose true form was revealed to be a massive exposed brain. Sharr drove Reaper into the brain just as the Sire of Belaphrone engines detonated, killing the Heretek and saving the planet.[4h]

In the aftermath, the Carcharodons escaped aboard the White Maw as the Inquisition was due to arrive. While Sharr was not cured of the "blindness", he had managed to suppress much of it and regain his honor and resumed control of the 3rd Company.[4i]

Wargear

In battle, Sharr wears an ancient suit of Mark IV “Maximus” Power Armour with a Mark III "Iron Armour" helmet.[1a] He wields the relic Chain Axe Reaper, which is taken up by every Master of the 3rd Company.[4f]
