Te Kahurangi

Te Kahurangi is the current Chief Librarian of the Carcharodons Chapter.[1a]

Known as the Pale Nomad, Te Kahurangi is the oldest member of the Chapter and is said to have been descended from the Wandering Ancestors, those that went into space at the behest of the Forgotten One.[1a]

History

Te Kahurangi was recruited from a Ocean World that was a recruitment world for a unnamed Adeptus Astartes Chapter, alongside his younger twin brother Chaplain Tangata Manu.[2b] After Te was recruited by the Carcharodons, Tangata Manu was eager to follower in his older brothers footsteps and also was able to eventually join. This left the rest of their family defenseless, and they were eventually killed by the sea monsters of their native homeworld. Te blamed Tangata for their deaths.[2b] Tangata Manu was on a quest to recover a Chapter relic, the Dark Glass, for over 1455 years, making Te Kahurangi of a age older than that as well.[2a]

Te, alongside 3rd Company Captain Bail Sharr, led a Red Tithe to the world of Zartak to seek the Psyker Mika Doren Skell before he could be captured by the Night Lords under Amon Cull and used as a sacrificial vessel for the Daemon Bar'ghul.[1b] During the battle on Zartak, Te was captured by the Night Lords Sorcerer Shadraith and intended to be used as part of the summoning ritual.[1c] Before Te and Skell could be sacrificed, Amon uses the opportunity to betray and kill Shadraith, allowing Skell to escape and use Te's Force Staff to disrupt the Void Shields of the Fortress. This allows the Carcharodons under Sharr to launch a teleportation assault, and in the subsequent battle Te uses his abilities to crush Amon Cull with debris.[1d] In the aftermath of the victory, Te accepts Skell as an Aspirant to the Chapter.[1e]

Te once again accompanied Sharr, this time to Atargatis Prime to treat with the Ashen Claws.[3a] He and Sharr next helped purge Genestealer Cults and Tyranids on Piety V alongside Tyberos, the Nicor, and Ashen Claws.[3b] In the Era Indomitus, he and the 3rd Company alongside former Reaper Prime Bail Sharr took part in the Battle of Diamantus, where he clashed with the powerful Heretek Voldire.[4]

Trivia

Kahurangi is the Māori noun for "dark blue", perhaps chosen as a reference to the dark blue armour of Librarians.
