Necron Doomsday Ark

Doomsday Arks are Necron grav-tanks used for heavy assaults.

Overview

The design of the Doomsday Ark dates back to the days of the Necrontyr.[3] It is similar in appearance to the Ghost Ark transport, though it sacrifices troop carrying capacity in favour of a single devastating Doomsday Cannon. It is not a tank in the conventional sense, but rather is essentially just a self-propelled doomsday cannon. Despite its fragile appearance, the Doomsday Ark is protected by energy shielding.[2] The tremendous firepower of these vehicles can make the weapons of the lesser races seem primitive by comparison. Even fired at low power the doomsday cannon is ferociously destructive, while at full power it eclipses conventional plasma weapons in power many times over and only a Titan could hope to withstand its firepower.[1] Due to the weapon's long range, Doomsday Arks are usually able to destroy any foe long before they can get into range with their own weapons. Nor do flanking attacks work, for the Doomsday Ark is deceptively mobile and can nimbly turn to meet any new threat.[2]

Despite being essentially a massive self-propelled gun, the Doomsday Ark can be employed in a variety of tactical roles. It is effective as a mobile artillery platform or tank-hunter on the offense, while also proving adept in the defensive role. When static, it can draw even more of its power reserves into its Doomsday Cannon, increasing its lethality further. This tactic is favoured by the Nihilakh Dynasty, who leave their Doomsday Arks stationary at all times unless there is no other choice.[2]
