Necron Night Scythe

Night Scythes is a Necron aircraft, commonly used as a dropship or scout craft.[2]

Overview

Night Scythes are the favored invasion tool of Necron aerial forces. Maneuverable enough to avoid fire and fast enough to outpace surprised defenders, these interplanetary scout and transport ships can ghost through a defense perimeter to deploy an invasion force directly into the heart of key enemy locations.[2] However these craft do not contain any transportation department. Instead, they ride into battle with a captive Wormhole linked to a distant Tomb World or warship[4] built into its hull.[2] At optimal distance, the portal is opened, allowing Necrons to cross vast distances with ease.[3] Once a foothold has been established, coordinates are relayed to the main army, enabling Monoliths and other heavy forces to teleport into position.[2]

In their scouting role, Night Scythes often range far ahead of other Necron assets. They are usually tasked with making contact with other Tomb Worlds or searching out lost Necron planets suitable for reclamation. On worlds where the locals are either few in number or primitive in nature, the Night Scythe usually spearheads its own conquest. On worlds where there is the potential for serious resistance to such an attack, the pilot of the aircraft quietly performs probes and biopsies of the inhabitants, preying on isolated settlements or convoys whilst it searches for clues that will identify the inhabiting race’s suitability and capabilities. Such tests are long and exhaustive, and the pilot is often forced to dissect entire townships in order to harvest sufficient data. On a particularly promising planet, they may go so far as to transport living subjects back to its tomb world for experiment by Crypteks. Most do not survive this process, but some may be returned back to their home with Mindshackle Scarabs to enable them to function as unsuspecting spies and saboteurs for a future invasion.[2]

Despite their emphasis on scout and transportation, these vehicles are armed with twin-linked Tesla Destructors and are still formidable craft in their own right when compared to the attack craft of lesser races.[1]

Lordsblade

Night Scythes (and Doom Scythes) which are especially effective in their role are elevated to directly serve their Necron Overlord are known as Lordsblades.[5]
