Gravitic Trebuchet
The Gravitic Trebuchet is a class of Necron artillery weapon. One of them was sought by both the Imperium and the Ithakas Dynasty after the destruction of Antikef.[1a]
Overview
The Gravitic Trebuchet is a gigantic Canoptek construct, shaped like an arachnid, each of its 8 projector spires being a pylon of Noctilith 6 leagues long. At its centre resides an armoured core containing its engines, command centre and targeting lenses.[1b]
The Weapon is designed for accelerating asteroids at faster than light speed.[1a] Its mechanisms create another reality where the laws of physics are different and mass of the object launched becomes negative, allowing it to reach speeds similar to those of an Inertialess Drive's jump.[1e]
For protection, the device contains an Interstitial Jamming Field, which makes teleportation to its interior impossible.[1b]
History
During the War in Heaven, an unnamed prince of the Mephrit Dynasty was contracted to create multiple gravitic trebuchets, with some of the materials coming from the Singularity Mines belonging to Polemarch Taikash of the Ithakas Dynasty. With the death of the prince, the weapons were left abandoned on the void.[1a]
During the Exodus of the Ithakas Dynasty, Taikash revealed the existence of the weapon to his Lord, Oltyx, revealing that it could be used to reach the world of Carnotite by firing the damaged battleship Akrops in place of its regular payload. As the Imperial Crusade Fleet, including the Ark Mechanicus Tyresias fought the Necron forces, the Cryptek Nebbeshken and Deathmark Lysikor secured the Trebuchet.[1c]
After the death of the Warden Neth and the destruction of the Tyresias,[1d] the Trebuchet was used to launch the Akrops to Carnotite.[1e] Its current status after the battle are unknown.
