Overview
During the War in Heaven, the Mephrit Dynasty specialised in stellar destruction, harnessing technology capable of turning stars supernova. The Silent King frequently turned to this dynasty to bring troublesome worlds to heel, even though most Necrontyr felt their methods ran counter to their codes of honourable warfare. To this day, the Mephrit mastery over stellar phenomena is evident in their weaponry, which are powered by the energy of captive suns.[2a] The Mephrit are also said to have been old enemies of the Sautekh Dynasty.[3]
The Phaeron of the dynasty, Khyrek the Eternal, was lost during the Great Sleep; destroyed during his slumber by Eldar assassins, leaving the awakened dynasty leaderless. This has led to the lesser nobility vying amongst themselves for power, each hoping to wrest control of the dynasty. The most powerful contenders currently are Overlords Zarathusa the Ineffable, Eknothet the Glorious, and Anubitar of the Thousand Victories. Several ambitious nobles are now seeking the Technomandrites' aid in reclaiming the Mephrit Dynasty's ability to murder stars. The first to do so, will surely become the next ruler of its forces.[4a] Also since their awakening, a breakaway faction of the Mephrit Dynasty has formed as well.[6] They are known as the Mephrit-Ghiar Dynasty, but though their bodies are pale white, the Dynasty's weaponry still displays the orange glow of their parent Mephrit.[7]
The territory of the Mephrit Dynasty is currently located in Ultima Segmentum, and includes the Tomb Worlds of Perdita and Qyrakotosh.[2b] Mephrit's dynastic symbol was originally intended to reflect the constellation which surrounded their Crownworld; however, the march of time and entropy have left the current formation of the empire unrecognisable compared to its former shape.[2a]
The current struggle for power has led the Mephrit contenders to increasingly return to the Technomandrites in aid, and these in turn have become proxies for the Technomandrites' own internal feuding and differing agendas. However, so far none of the nobles of the Mephrit Dynasty have become true puppets of the Technomandrites, refusing demands for outright breaches of ancient dynastic codes. Yet this outcome is likely only a matter of time, for the power of the Technomandrites' weaponry is all too tempting for the Mephrit warlords.[9]
Early in M42, the Dynasty launched a large-scale invasion of Imperium Nihilus, culminating in their assaults on the worlds of Krastellan and Unverrdt IX. They were met in battle by Skitarii armies. In the end, despite the Dynasty's Technomandrite Crypteks unleashing a swarm of self-replicating Scarabs and Tomb Spyders overwhelming the Skitarii, the offensive was defeated by the sudden arrival of Knights from House Hawkshroud.[8]
