Isaac Shiller was a Captain in the Royal Volpone 50th, during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.[1]

History

He was a 6th generation Royal, who came from a long line of high-ranking military men. While this led Shiller to have lofty aspirations about his future, he was marred by his ill-temper and bad habits. This included excessive drinking while on duty and being abusive to the Regiment's Mil-serve servants. Due to their lowborn status, however, Shiller refused to call them that and used the derogatory slur Deg instead. During the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, the 50th were among its forces that fought the Blood Pact on Gnostes. There, some of its Companies were among the Regiments that General Voke commanded, as he defended the city of Lodden. As the Blood Pact attacked the city, the Royals suffered causalities, including amongst their officer class. Shiller and Lieutenant Armand Culcis, were eventually among the only three left and were then under the command of Major Vasquez Regara. As they fought to defend the city, the Captain would continue his bad habits. This forced Major Regara to have to remind Shiller to maintain a decorum fitting of a Royal Volpone officer. Disaster later struck, during the battle as the Blood Pact advanced upon Lodden'. General Voke's tactics to fight the Heretics backfired, when his overextended battle line was overrun. This led the General to give the order for his Regiments to retreat and abandon the city. Shiller and the 50th then joined the other surviving Guardsmen, as they tried to escape before the Blood Pact overwhelmed them.[1]
