Vasquez Regara
Vasquez Regara was a Major of the Royal Volpone 50th, active during the Sabbat Worlds Crusade.[1]
Biography
He was a 13th generation Royal, who could trace his lineage back to the Macharian Crusade. This led his family to be among the upper-tier of Volpone's nobility.[1]
During the Sabbat Worlds Crusade, Regara lost his left leg while fighting on Nacedon. Though it was replaced by a Mars-made bionic, the Major discovered that his new chrome leg would occasionally ache and cause him pain. Sometime later, the 50th were among the Crusade's forces that fought the Blood Pact on Gnostes. There, some of its Companies were among the Militarum that General Voke commanded as he defended the city of Lodden. As the Blood Pact attacked the city, the Royals suffered causalities, including amongst their officer class. This caused Regara to become the only high ranking officer left, and he was given command of Captain Isaac Shiller and Lieutenant Armand Culcis. As they fought to save the city, Regara found himself having to remind the ill-tempered Shiller to maintain a decorum fitting of a Royal Volpone officer. He even had to intervene in order to prevent Shiller's mistreatment of the Regiment's Mil-serves. While they were lowborn, the Major treated them well and wanted his officers to do the same. This included not referring to a Mil-serve by the derogatory slur Deg.[1]
Disaster later struck during the battle as the Blood Pact advanced upon Lodden. General Voke's tactics to fight the heretics backfired when his overextended battle line was overrun. This led the General to give the order for his forces to retreat and abandon the city. As the surviving Guardsmen then raced to escape before the Blood Pact caught them, Voke evacuated aboard an Arvus Lighter with his command staff. The General had offered a seat to Regara, but the Major refused. He believed a high ranking officer needed to stay in order to coordinate the Guardsmen's withdrawal. If that would not be the General, then it fell to him to do so. However, the Major came to regret that decision, as rain began to fall and they struggled to stay ahead of the Blood Pact. Even then, he still ensured to instil decorum into his officers. When Lieutenant Culcis used the slur "Deg" to refer to the Mil-serve Darian, Regara quickly confronted him. The Major then told Culcis to call their servants by their title or name. While the Major had to deal with such ignorant behaviour from Captain Shiller, he did not want to deal with the Lieutenant acting the same way. Culcis contritely accepted this, as they continued to retreat.[1]
