Luce Spinoza is the Interrogator for the Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Lord, Erasmus Crowl.[2]

History

Luce Spinoza, wielding the Argent[3]

Prior to that, she was the Interrogator for the Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Lord Joffen Tur, who she greatly admired despite his many faults. Spinoza ambitiously hoped to one day follow in Tur's footsteps and develop a reputation that was half as formidable as his was. She worked tirelessly to meet the great expectations that Tur held for his retinue, but the Inquisitor Lord never hesitated to tell the Interrogator where her skills were lacking. This occurred even when Tur took part in aiding the Imperium's forces, that fought to end the rebellion, on Forfoda. Tur though wanted to learn why the world's Planetary Governor, rebelled against the Imperium, but the Imperial Fists presence on Forfoda would make that difficult. They had begun destroying rebel held buildings, in an attempt to end the rebellion, and the Governor's building would soon be one of them.[1]

In order to ensure the Governor was not killed, Tur led most of his retinue to capture the rebel's leader. However, he had learned though, that an Imperial Fists squadron, under the command of the Chaplain Erastus, was also going to attack the rebellion's second in command, the Governor's Adjutant Naiao Servia. In order to ensure she was brought in alive, Tur ordered Spinoza to accompany the Imperial Fists and in doing also sought to strengthen the Interrogator's conventional combat abilities, which she lacked in. When they both launched their attacks, though, it was discovered that the rebellion's leadership had fallen to heresy and worshiped the Chaos God Nurgle. They now faced rebels infected with Nurgle's foul power, and in battle with Servia's forces, the infected adjutant disarmed Erastus and nearly killed the Chaplain. With the rest of the squadron unable to reach him in time, Spinoza acted quickly by grabbing the Chaplain's fallen Crozius Arcanum and swung a blow that broke Servia's spine.[1]

Doing so freed Erastus, but the weapon had been made for a Space Marine to wield and its weight and the impact of her blow, broke both of Spinoza's arms. By then, however, the squadron had killed Spinoza's forces and the Interrogator was able to convince the Chaplain to spare the defeated adjutant's life. Afterwards, Spinoza was taken into custody, where she was later interrogated by Tur, but before that occurred, the Inquisitor Lord visited Spinoza in one of Forfoda's medicae stations. After learning what had happened, Tur awkwardly praised Spinoza and, once learning she was healing well, the Inquisitor left, after telling his Interrogator they would work on her weapons training once she recovered. Spinoza spends the next three weeks recovering, during which time the rebellion on Forfoda is destroyed. Tur's work is not yet done on the world, however, and as the Interrogator is practicing her melee skills, she is approached by the Imperial Fists Chaplain Erastus. He presents to her, the Crozius Arcanum Argent, which Spinoza had used to save his life. It had been a relic in the Imperial Fists' armoury, for a thousand years and it had been proclaimed that for an outsider to handle it, even to touch it, would earn the Chapter's wrath. However since Spinoza had used the Argent to save Erastus, the Chapter had decided that it would be given to her as a gift. The former Crozius Arcanum was then heavily modified so that, a Human could safely use it. When Erastus presented the Argent to her, however, Spinoza tried to refuse it, as she felt she was not worthy enough to wield it. The Chaplain warned her though, that if she spurned the Chapter's gift, that would be the second time Spinoza had insulted the Chapter, and one that Erastus would not overlook. With that the Interrogator accepted the Argent and Erastus began training with her, to show Spinoza how to properly fight with the weapon.[1]

Shortly after her experience with the Fists, Spinoza became an Acolyte to Inquisitor Lord Erasmus Crowl on Terra and became involved in his attempt to unravel the conspiracy surrounding the Golden Throne.[2] She became close to Crowl during these journeys, discovering that the Mechanicum was dealing with the Dark Eldar in order to prevent the Golden Throne from dying. Spinoza continued to work with Crowl until he went missing following the incident at the Astronomican during the formation of the Great Rift. Afterwards, Spinoza obtains Crowl's Servo-Skull Gorgias and attempts to locate the Inquisitor.[4a]

Meeting up with Crowl's old retinue including the Stormtrooper Maldo Revus and assassin Niir Khazad, Spinoza and the group eventually discover Crowl and the Custodian Navradaran on Luna.[4b] The group travels into the Webway portal secretly located there and journeys through Commorragh, intent on learning the truth of the deal between Fabricator-General Oud Oudia Raskian and the Dark Eldar. [4b] After learning of the Black Throne project, Crowl and Spinoza's group come to blows with the xenos.[4c] Crowl goes missing when he activates a Dark Gate to trap him and a Haemonculus into a forbidden zone of the Webway, while Spinoza flees towards the Webway Gate to escape back to Luna and let the Imperium know of the heresy that has unfolded. Wounded, she seemingly fails in her attempt to reach the gate but the truth is unclear.[4d]
