History
At an unspecified point in the Malakbael's history, the Death Korps of Krieg fought overwhelming Heretek forces on the planet. One Kriegsman in this conflict, Brother Tormund Egler, was a particularly devout member of his squad and acted as a preacher to his entrenched comrades.[2]
After the discovery of the mysterious Choral Engine on the world by Inquisitor Glori Emagna, Malakbael became a vital world within the Imperium Nihilus. As such, it was a mustering point for Indomitus Crusade Fleet Quartus under Fleetmaster Trincus Abconcis, who assembled a great host there in preparation for an expected Chaos attack after warning by the Grey Knights. The Choral Engine itself was heavily fortified in a bastion dubbed the Fortress of Light.[1a]
In the subsequent Battle of Malak, Malakbael was assailed by the forces of the World Eaters led by Angron himself, who was attracted by the Choral Engine. In the final stages of the battle, Angron was empowered by Khorne to destroy the Choral Engine, causing a catastrophic chain reaction which saw the entire planet blown apart. In its wake is a Warp Rift from which Daemons of Khorne erupt.[1c]
