Mordian 24th

The Mordian 24th is an Mordian Iron Guard Regiment of the Astra Militarum.^[1a]

History

It is among the Iron Guard, that are taking part in the Third War for Armageddon and were set to counter-attack against Ork forces on the Sulphur River. Nearly the entire Regiment took part, except for A Company's 3rd Platoon, whose Chimeras had been taken by the Company, so it could be fully mobile for the counter-attack. The 3rd Platoon's Captain, Kaine, was then charged with guarding the Regiment's supplies, within a ruined mine that was close to the Sulphur River's Asch Creek, until the 24th returned.^[1a] They were joined by the Regiment's Ratling Sniper Hookey, who had faked being ill to get out of taking part in the counter-attack, as well as the Hive Militia and civilians assigned to the 24th, who were considered a liability to their battle plans.^[1b]

Unfortunately disaster struck soon afterwards, when the Regiment was almost completely destroyed by an Ork ambush, before the 24th could launch their own attack. Only a few survivors escaped from the Xenos, but they fled away from the 3rd Platoon's position and a severe electrical storm prevented them from warning Captain Kaine about the Regiment's defeat. An Ork Warboss then led a horde against the unsuspecting Platoon, which was now alone and cut off from the bulk of the Imperium's forces. When a cloud of dust approached their position, the 3rd thought the 24th were returning from an easy victory, until the first wave of Orks charged them. Now the vastly outnumbered Platoon,^[1a] along with Hookey, the Hive Militia and civilians,^[1b] are defending themselves against the Xenos horde. However they are unaware, that the Orks only have a limited time to battle the Platoon, before the horde has to return to the Xenos' main camp.^[1a]

Trivia

• The Mordian 24th were created by the Games Workshop employee Jervis Johnson. They were featured in Citadel Journal 48.^[1a]
• The Last Stand at Asch Creek is a modified version of the Battle of Glazer's River scenario, which appeared in White Dwarf 222 (UK). Besides the change in Regiment and location,^[1a] the Platoon is led by Kaine, instead of Caine. The names of the characters Hookey and Blikk, however, remain the same.^[1b]
