Scout Walkers are tall and slender scouting bipedal vehicles, that are used by the Asuryani and Exodites.[1a]

Description

Though they are more lightly armed than War Walkers and lack a protective Power Field, Scout Walkers move with an extreme speed, grace and smooth agility, that other vehicles can not match. While they are best suited for open ground, where the vehicles can maintain a reasonable speed, Scout Walkers are adept at navigating across difficult environments, such as the tangled undergrowth of forests and primeval swamps. Also with the addition of a single Scatter Laser or Lascannon and a Holo-Field, Scout Walkers have become invaluable for scouting, skirmishing, ambushes and hit and run attacks. So much so, that no Asuryani commander is ever willingly without them.[1a]

The Exodites, however, primarily use Scout Walkers to protect their herds and the vehicles' Dragon-like appearance, has un-nerved many foes. They refer to Scout Walkers as Mear-feothan, which means swift wind, and the vehicles are normally piloted by an Exodite Warrior. Though it is also not unheard of for an Exodite Lord to lead a squadron of Scout Walkers into battle.[1a] Rangers use Scout Walkers as well, but their vehicles are equipped with either a Shuriken Cannon, Scatter Laser, Missile Launcher, Bright Lance or a Star Cannon.[2]

Tactics

Scout Walkers are vulnerable while stationary, so their pilots keep them constantly moving. Battle tactics for the vehicles include moving from cover to cover, while shooting at their foes or sniping their enemies from a distance. Scout Walkers are also best deployed in squadrons of three in v formations, with the lead vehicle being equipped with a Lascannon. The other two will be equipped with Scatter Lasers and as the Lascannon equipped vehicle destroys heavily armoured targets, they will mop up any infantry that threatens the squadron.[1a]

Trivia

The Scout Walker was created by Rupert Hammerton-Fraser and it appeared in The Citadel Journal 8.[1a][1b] The variant used by Rangers was created by Andy Coe and it appeared in The Citadel Journal 36.[2]
