Warhammer 40,000 Apocalypse is an expansion to Warhammer 40,000
Description
The games are designed for armies 3000 points or over, and remove the pitfalls and limitations of using massive units such as Titans and Baneblades in regular games of 40,000. It removes the restrictions normally imposed, and allows to put all the player models on the table. Apocalypse is meant to allow you to play themed game that emphasize having fun over winning at all costs.[1]
Publication History
It was designed in the wake of Cities of Death, as the studio was experimenting with new ways to play.[2a] The first Apocalypse sourcebook was released in October 2007, during the latter days of Warhammer 40,000's fourth edition.[3]
Games Workshop released kits that can only be used with the Apocalypse ruleset, like the plastic Baneblade super-heavy tank boxed set released by Games Workshop at the same time as the first Apocalypse rulebook. At the time, the Baneblade was the largest plastic kit that the company produced[2b]. Prior to that time, all large Warhammer 40,000 tanks were produced only in resin by Forge World (company). The Baneblade was also the first Warhammer 40,000 model kit created by Games Workshop that could only be used with an optional expansion and not within the base Warhammer 40,000 game.[1]
