Kartar Helmawr
Kartar Helmawr was a Noble of Necromunda's ruling House Helmawr and was also the 7th Trueborn son of Gerontius Helmawr, the Hive World's 137th Planetary Governor.[1]
History
He was a lean fighter, who felt a need to risk his own life as he sought out combat. Kartar was also a former Spyre Hunter and he proudly displayed the scars he earned on his arms and face. However his sister and fellow Trueborn Haera Helmawr, thought Kartar enjoyed killing a little too much and because of this he would not make an effective ruler for Necromunda.[1]
In M42, Necromunda suffered under the Great Darkness, during which Gerontius was attacked by an assassin. While the Imperial Governor survived, he was left fatally wounded and had to be placed within a Stasis Casket in order to save his life. This left the Hive World without leadership, and fighting erupted between Gerontius' Trueborn heirs who sought to succeed their Father. Many were killed in the Great Darkness, but Kartar was among[1] the fourteen[2] who still survived, when Haera called for a meeting between her siblings. She claimed she wanted to put an end to the conflict between them and instead work towards declaring a new Planetary Governor for Necromunda. Kartar and five other siblings attended the meeting, but he had little ambition in succeeding his Father. His brothers Gilbarn and Horlun felt the same and they put their support behind their eldest surviving sister Yvetta, who had aided their Father in ruling the Hive World. Yvetta refused to succeed Gerontius though and stated they should wait for him to recover. Their siblings Kyree and Nyco refused on both waiting and on Yvetta becoming the next Imperial Governor.[1]
Haera did as well and it was at that moment she enacted her plot to succeed her Father, by killing her rival Trueborn heirs. The entire meeting had been a ruse for her to gather them all in one place and in the battle that followed, the six siblings moved to attack Haera. However as he moved past Nyco, his brother stabbed Kartar with a Haemophagic Blade, which fatally poisoned him. Kartar then lost control of his body, as the fighting continued, but he slowly began making his way to his siblings while holding an activated Vortex Grenade. This was as Kyree and Yvetta were fighting Haera, who all stopped at the sight of the grenade in their brother's hand. While the other Trueborn froze in fright, Yvetta attempted to disarm Kartar who was now close to death due to the Haemophagic's poison. However when she neared her brother, Kartar collapsed at Yvetta's feet and the Vortex Grenade exploded into a Warp breach. This tear in reality pulled both Yvetta and Kartar into the Warp and then began expanding. The chamber the meeting was being held in would have been consumed as well, had its empyric dampers not then activated and caused the Warp breach to fade away. The rest of the Trueborn in the meeting died soon afterwards[1] and with most[2] of her siblings now gone, Haera was able to take command of House Helmawr and succeeded her Father as the new ruler of Necromunda.[1]
