Nox Alpha is a Death World[2e] beyond the fringe of the Moebian Domain[3] and was a planet of particular military focus during the Fringe Campaign.[4b] It is a planet of sickly skies, weeping trees, and noxious air, where shadows move and horrors lurk.[3]
Recently in early Era Indomitus, the Moebian 6th Regiment were deployed to take this world with no additional support.[3] As fighting stalled and casualties mounted,[1b] corruption and apathy would grow amongst their ranks amid the horror and a schism would eventually occur.[3] Blessed by Nurgle, the Moebian 6th traitors would be victorious, and the 6th would then bring these blessings back to their beloved homeworld, Atoma Prime.
Overview
With a black sun and several moons casting odd reflections, the light conditions across Nox Alpha are unusual, with many zones subject to sporadic periods of shifting blackness.[2g] The planet often shifts into total darkness[1a] and the winds carry dangerous, noxious air.[2a] Breathing the air of Nox Alpha without a rebreather, can result in a condition referred to by Moebian soldiers as 'Lungers' Cough' and sometimes the winds carry sicknesses that result in truly gruesome deaths.[2a] One such sickness bloats the abdomen of a person until they burst in a shower of maggots and gore.[3] Another fetid sickness, dubbed Nox Pox, can decimate an entire garrison of soldiers.[3]
The world has 3 distinct regions, each with their own unique horrors and challenges.
- The Tenebrus is an area of perpetual darkness where nothing can be seen without the assistance of flares.[2d]
- The Grundrak forest is an extremely dense forest of hidden horrors. Fighting in the Grundrak forest was feared by all Moebian 6th lasmen, even the most battle-loving ogryns feared it. Being deployed to the Grundrak forest was seen as an assured death sentence.[2c][2e] The forest is so densely packed that only the witch-sight of psykers could effectively keep watch for any approaching enemies.[1c]
- The Hellus region is a storm-riven, equatorial area of the planet where the defining feature is pervasive and deadly red mists. Those veterans of the 6th who spent the most time deployed here said the least about what was found within the red mists.[2b][2f]
Locations
- Thradium Stronghold - A stronghold within the Hellus region sieged by the Moebian 6th.[2f]
Nox Alpha Campaign
main article: Nox Alpha Campaign
During the Nox Alpha campaign the Moebian 6th would experience a slow decline through sickness, plague, and mounting losses the 6th would try to hold their Anchorpoints. In addition, supernatural phenomonon would haunt the lasmen when they shut their eyes, hearing voices and laughter, and glimpsing horrors only they could see. Many lasmen on watch duty would succumb to death by the sheer terror of it.[3]
As the campaign continued, new priests would appear by the sides of various command officers, such as Captain Wolfer and Colonel Gortun. The lasmen of the regiment would assume these new priests must be from another Moebian 6th company. Those who listened to the whispers of these priests gained immunity to the sickness ravaging the Moebian ranks, as well as gaining supernatural strength and vigor in battle.[3]
The Nox Alpha Campaign would culminate in Captain Wolfer's company leading a heretical schism in the Moebian 6th's ranks, culling any remaining Moebian loyalists.[3]
