The Phantom Titan, or Finnaidann,[5] is the largest of the Eldar Titans.[1]

Overview

Phantom Titan of Fir Lirithion fights beside Iyanden forces.[5]

Phantom Titans are graceful constructs with superior agility and speed compared to other Titans. The pinnacle of Eldar warpcraft, each one is constructed around a Wraithbone core, a psychic material which allows the souls of deceased Eldar contained within Spirit Stones to move freely throughout the machine. This gives the Titan a consciousness of its own, which merges with that of the Phantom's crew and helps guide them.[8]

Some Phantom Titans will have a single steersman pilot them,[2] while others will instead be guided by three living pilots[5] (in rare cases, triplets),[1] but regardless, when their consciousness merges with that of the Titan's they create one sentience able to think, react, and move with the speed of an Aspect Warrior. The Titan's crew controls their war engine from the head cockpit, giving them a good view from 25 meters above the ground.[2]

Phantom Titans do not participate in the Eldar's normal warfare operations of raids and surgical strikes, but are instead reserved for when the Craftworld must engage in pitched battle. Only during these desperate times are the Webway portals opened wide enough to allow the Phantom Titans to stride upon the battlefield and wreck terrible destruction upon their foes.[2]

Weapons

Phantom Titan[2]

The Phantom's primary arm mounts can be fitted with some of the Eldar's largest and deadliest weapons. These include twin Phantom Titan Pulsars, Distortion Cannons, Vibro Cannons,[5] a Heat Lance[8], a Power Fist,[5] and a special Power Glaive known as the Ashuna-Valcry'le – the "Sleepless Harbinger of Destruction".[2]

Secondary weapons mounted in its fin-like wings[8] include Phantom Missile Launchers[2] and either a Lascannon,[8], Pulse Laser, or Titan-grade Starcannon.[2]

Defenses

The Phantom Titan is principally protected by an image-distorting datheidi Holo-fields, similar to those of the Harlequins[6] projected from the Titan's fins which confuse auspices and targeters of all types.[2]

Variants

Warlock Titan

Warlock Titan[10]

Warlock Titans, not to be confused with living Warlocks, are Phantom Titans whose first souls were powerful Psykers in life. Now, in death, the immense titan – the pinnacle of Eldar Psychic Engineering – serves as a conduit for the dead spirits to amplify their psychic potential through its Wraithbone structure, fighting with the insight of possible futures and the ebb and flow of fate.[8][10]

Dark Eldar Titans

Main article: Shadow Stalker Titan

The Shadow Stalker Titan is a modified Phantom Titan captured and necromantically twisted by the Dark Eldar into an "undead" version of itself to fight in their raids. They are cloaked in Shadow Fields, rather than a Holo-Field, and covered in a myriad of razor-sharp blades which drip with the viscera of their victims. They are outfitted with Dark Lances, Power Glaives, and a unique weapon known as the Beam of Despair.[9]

Warlock Titans captured in this way are known as Soul Stealers.[9]
