Dawn of Desolation (Battle)
The Dawn of Desolation was a battle that occurred during the Horus Heresy in 013.M31, when a vanguard fleet of the Space Wolves taking part in the Dark Angels' campaign of vengeance, clashed with a Death Guard raiding fleet.[1]
History
It began as the raiding fleet was returning to rejoin the Death Guard's garrison on their Homeworld, Barbarus, from the Systems surrounding Galaspar. Before the fleet could do so, however, it clashed with the Space Wolves' vanguard fleet and during the battle, vicious boarding actions were launched by both forces. In the end though, it was the Space Wolves who were victorious and the Death Guard fleet retreated after suffering heavy losses, including the capture of the Dawn of Desolation. The Traitor Legion's surviving warships then returned to their Homeworld's garrison and warned Castellan-Praetor Vrokhorn that an attack by the Loyalists was now imminent. Thanks to this warning, the Death Guard were able to raise Barbarus' defences and prepared themselves to protect their Homeworld.[1]
