History
Tulava Dyne was once a Primaris Psyker serving the Imperium. Eventually she would defect and join the forces of the Alpha Legion. By this time she appeared to be middle-aged and had discarded her Primaris uniform for nondescript navy fatigues and a carapace breastplate taken from the corpse of a Tempestor Prime.[1b]
In the Era Indomitus, Dyne took part in the Serpent's Teeth's invasion of the Imperial world Pendata, which initially went well. However, this quickly changed after the Silver Templars' Indomitus Crusade forces came to the world's aid. With the arrival of the Primaris Space Marines, the Serpent's Teeth began to take heavy losses and was forced into retreat. At Akurra's instruction, Dyne summoned a large Neverborn as a distraction, which began wreaking havoc on Imperial forces. The use of her powers had also unintentionally weakened the barrier between realities and allowed lesser Neverborn to possess and reanimate corpses. Despite being attacked by the Neverborn, Dyne and Akurra successfully escaped.[1b]
Abilities
A favoured ability she possesses is "warpwalking", teleporting her and anything she is touching to a specific location within a limited range.[1f] Disappearing into or emerging from columns of swirling purple-tinged darkness.[2b] She uses this ability multiple times, even using it to save her own and Akurra's lives.[1c]
She is also a trained psykinetic, able to raise psychic barriers to shield herself[1j] and unleash shockwaves to knock down or send enemies flying.[1c] The latter ability is commonly used in coordination with Akurra, where the marine would fall prone to avoid the shockwave while their enemies took the hit.[1b]
As a rogue psyker in the employ of heretics, Dyne not only possesses psychic talent, but is also adept in daemonic summoning rituals. As mentioned above, when the warband is forced into retreat on Pendata, she weakens the barrier between realities to summon Neverborn as a distraction.[1b] When the warband is later caught in a trap by Adeptus Mechanicus forces on Anthras, she incites mass daemonic possession in the Khorne-aligned marines of the First Strike Alpha Legion warband, causing Bloodletters to sprout from all twenty marines. The Bloodletters initially looked to the Alpha Legion as victims, but Dyne quickly redirected them towards Mechanicus lines with orders in an ancient language.[1d]
Relationships
Dyne and Akurra are on good terms, having saved each others' lives multiple times.[1e] She is loyal to him and the two speak with each other as if they were equals.
Dyne is noticeably not subservient to Space Marines unlike most mortals in Chaos warbands. She speaks to Akurra as equals, and will make requests of and even argue with marines in the warband.[1h] There is particular animosity between her and Qope Halver[1i], who loathes her insolence. Her insolence is due to both confidence in her own powers, claiming that she could break the bones of any marine who tried to kill her,[1g] and in Akurra's protection.[1i]
