Ultramar Auxilia

The Ultramar Auxilia or Ultramar Defence Auxilia is the Planetary Defence Forces of the worlds of Ultramar[1] and numbers in the billions.[10]

While each world of Ultramar enjoys the protection of the Ultramarines Chapter, the Ultramar Auxilia functions as the first line of defence against any invaders. The Ultramar Auxilia is trained with extreme discipline and dedication,[1a] reaching to standards expected from Space Marines.[1b] They are also well equipped[11], all of which makes the Ultramar Auxilia much more competent than the average Imperial world's PDF[1b] and a cut above the Astra Militarum's regular regiments.[11] While Ultramar is exempt of the normal tithes of manpower expected of the worlds in the Imperium, the Ultramar Auxilia maintain many regiments ready for deployment to locations outside of Ultramar.[2a] Though the Auxilia is not required by Imperial law to operate outside the borders of Ultramar, it does so regardless.[10] Indeed, several of these regiments have fought against the enemies of the Imperium alongside the Ultramarines.[2b]

The Capital World of Macragge has an additional group within its Auxilia, known as the Juventia. It is composed of adolescent males, who are trained to be warriors and serve as Macragge's last line of defense. They youths will remain with the Juventia until they come of age and will then be sent to undertake the trials needed to join the Ultramar Auxilia. However, there is no guarantee that members of the group will be able to succeed in joining the Auxilia. Also, because of the level of training they receive, the Juventia are the first place the Ultramarines go to in search of Aspirants for the Chapter.[4]

The standard Ultramar Defence Auxilia uniform incorporates layered mesh and kevlar.[8] Onboard spacecraft like a Ramilies Star Fort, the Auxilia wear armoured environment suits and all-enclosing helmets, coloured sky blue and gold.[7]

Conflicting sources

  • In the first edition of Dark Imperium (Novel), Tullius Varens hails from Prandium II and he and trooper Bolus serve in the Prandium 30th Ultramar Auxiliary Regiment.[13] In the second edition of the novel, he now hails from Talassar and he and trooper Bolus serve in the Talassar 30th Ultramar Auxiliary Regiment.[14]
