"The Moebian Domain is full of established worlds, burgeoning settlements and far-flung colonies."[3]

The Moebian Domain is a fiefdom of several important Imperial worlds.[1]

The Moebian Domain is ruled by Lord Margrave of Atoma, from his seat of power in Hive Tertium.[1][5]

Overview

Located in the galactic northwest of Segmentum Solar,[2a] the Domain occupies a significant tract of space.[1] The capital world of the Moebian Domain is Atoma Prime. Although the Domain is sparsely populated, it offers important tithes of fuel, arms, and soldiers to the wider Imperium.[5] Over this significant tract of space,[1] sparse clusters of planetary systems make up the Moebian Domain.

Long ago, Forge World Obscurus once supplied much of the Moebian Domain.[4e] A significant amount of old Cadian battlegear is found across the Moedian Domain, but the reasons why isn't specified by history.[4d]

On the Moebian Fringe there are war-torn Death worlds[8] and Feral Worlds where the Fringe War, a war of pacification to hold back the Darktide, has been rumbling on for years.[1] The galactic north of the Domain is dotted with feral worlds and are the site of constant Fringe War battles to hold back the Darktide.[3i]

The stable warp routes and astropathic communications from the Moebian Domain to the rest of the Imperium have been significantly disrupted by Warp storms recently. This has essentially left the Moebian Domain isolated from the rest of the Imperium.[8]

Fringe War

Main article: Fringe War

Many of the Moebian Regiments are raised from Atoma's population and sent to fight in Fringe Campaigns along the Moebian Domain's border territories, sometimes referred to as the Moebian Fringe Region. The Moebian population is largely kept ignorant of the true nature of the foes that threaten them. The Darktide is the general label given to these unspeakable threats constantly pressuring their borders. The same is said for the freshly raised Moebian Regiments, until they begin serving their long meat-grinder tours in the Fringe War and finally see the true face of the Moebian Domain's nightmarish foes.[1]

While most serve faithfully, despite the physical and psychological trauma they face, some Moebian Lasmen are left broken by their long tours. Such is what happened to the highly decorated Moebian Sixth‎‎ Regiment, which became seduced and infected by Darktide and are now attacking Atoma Prime's Hive Tertium. The Lasmen of the Moebian Sixth, however, are not doing so simply for vengeance against what they endured in the Fringe War. No the poignant truth is that the Sixth truly believe the Darktide has shown them the light and they wish to share this liberating Nurgle, with the entire population of the Hive World. In doing so, the Regiment hopes to free Atoma Prime from the the stagnant rubrics of the Imperium's rule.[1]

History

The earliest records that still exist on the oldest Astra Cartographica's charts suggest indicate that the region was settled during the earliest years of the Dark Age of Technology.[5] The world that would be known as Atoma was first colonised at some point during this time, the era where humanity was at their technological zenith. What would become known as the Moebian Domain was likely colonised during the early portions of Humanity's dispersal amongst the star around M.15, due to the Moebian Domain's proximity to Terra, being within the Segmentum Solar.[2a]

In the the subsequent Age of Strife, Atoma would become self-sufficient and stabilise, in part due to its powerful and ancient means of industry, weathering the Age of Strife fairly well. The citisenry would grow in strength and continue to develop armour and weapons to protect from further threats.[2b]

In the following Great Crusade of early M.30, the expeditionary fleets of the Emperor of Mankind would rediscover Atoma and immediately see its value. No harsh re-education and violent subjugation would be needed to incorporate Atoma into the fledgling Imperium. The rulers of Atoma would willing and readily join this new and powerful interstellar human empire. The highly productive manufactorums of Atoma would immediately be used to set to production to support the Great Crusade's fleets' supply lines.[2]

Soon after, the Great Crusade fleets' would integrate the second world of what would become the Moebian Domain, Crucis. The rulers of Crucis would cede authority to Atoma and who would thus be christened Atoma Prime. Now a capital world, the Administratum would name the first Lord or Lady Moebian as ruler of their growing interstellar domain. The Great Crusade fleets would go on to stabilise the Moebian Domain's borders and liberate any worlds found. Komaris would be one of these liberated worlds. Any xenos threats encountered would be annihilated, either being completely exterminated or crippled to the point of insignificance.[2]

M31 and Horus Heresy

Atoma Prime and the Moebian Domain would side with loyalists during the Horus Heresy. In the aftermath, an interim government would be set up on Crucis. The Moebian naval battlefleet would also be moved to Crucis during this period. Atoma Prime needed time to recover from events during the Horus Heresy in order to reach full production capabilities once again. In M32, the Moebian battlefleet and administrative authority would be passed back to Atoma Prime from Crucis without incident.[2]

M35 – Strife and Upheaval

The Fringe Wars would steadily rise in intensity after M31 with the Darktide making significant advances towards the center of the Moebian Domain. The Imperium would respond by sending an unspecified force to aid the in the defense of the Moebian Domain. Many Imperial worlds would fall during this time of strife.[2]

The wide devastation wrought by the Fringe Wars of M35 left the Moebian Domain unstable. During M35, Atoma Prime would have a "victorious alliance" of noble houses would a transfer of power to one of these "victorious alliance" members, Anselm Barquette of House Barquette, would take up the office of rulership of the Moebian Domain as Lord Moebian.[2]

Under Barquette rule, reconquest of lost Imperial worlds in the Moebian Domain would begin. On Atoma Prime mining and resource extraction would be increased significantly. This would send the already wavering biosphere of Atoma into complete collapse. As vassal worlds and industry returned to the Domain much wealth would be consolidated on Atoma Prime.[2]

There would then be a transfer of power from the Barquettes to that of House Margrave in M36, some refer to this dispute as a civil war. The bitter rivalry between the two houses would carry on to present day M41 and the political divide would continue to be seen through Atoman society and government into present day M41.[4a][4b][2]

M36 – M41: Margrave Rule

Margrave rulership of the Moebian Domain would be stable and steadily prosperous. Imperial records don't mention any significant Fringe Wars comparable to those of M35 or M36. Planets of the Moebian Domain would continue to be reclaimed and new ones would be charted.[2]

Present Day

In the Era Indomitus, the forces of Chaos have infiltrated Atoma Prime. The planet's capital city, Hive Tertium, is infested by a Chaos Cult called the Cult of Admonition[6] and the Moebian Sixth Regiment was redirected from returning to the frontlines in the Fringe Wars to assist in quelling the a civilian uprising and quarantining the outbreak of blight. However, once the Moebian 6th were planetside and became entrenched, they revealed themselves as traitors, turning to ally themselves with the cult.[7][2]

Inquisitor Grendyl sent his warband aboard the Rogue Trader vessel, the Mourningstar to combat this threat. The Mourningstar would remain in orbit of Atoma Prime whilst the uprising occurred,[7] while the Inquisitor and other agents pursued heresy within Hive Tertium.[8][2]

Core Worlds

Core Worlds of the Moebian Domain:

Fringe Worlds

Unknown Locations

  • Syndian Reach – A backwater collection of outposts and way stations. Torveth, The Butcher of the Syndian Reach, made a name for himself in the fighting pits and arenas here.
  • Gathadra – A desert world where the Moebian 81st fought greenskins. The Moebian 81st were incorrectly equipped for an ice world deployment. (Peesah Hood (Ice Mourn))
  • Haxorn – The world of Haxorn is famed for its harsh winters, which blanket the irradiated plains, turned red by centuries of industry. Haxorn has been defended many times in its long history, most recently by the Moebian 13th, who successfully repelled an Ork invasion during a vicious month of fighting. (Combat Axe (Redscar Thaw))
  • Aethos – A grotesquely hot, humid and unfathomably dangerous jungle world where the Moebian 83rd, 441st and 515th regiments took part in the infamous Aethos campaign. (Combat Sword (Adamantine Inferno))

Culture

  • "Despite attempts by the authorities to crack down on them, Honour Duels remain a popular – if deadly – method of settling disputes throughout the Moebian Domain." (Character creation)
