He has the authority to refuse field testing of any new equipment thought to be dangerously unstable. There is no record of Ran-Thawll ever choosing to exercise his veto. He is thought to have visited the Emperor several times, though this is mere speculation.[66]

He and the majority of the veteran First Company sold their lives dearly on the jungle death world of Miral, after escaping the destruction of their homeworld of Sotha by Hive Fleet Kraken. Lorgath is an impressive strategist who is perpetually challenging his Captains with tactical exercises.[91]
Calan[93] Storm Warriors Wearied by a recent prolonged campaign and the losses incurred (two ships and around 300 Battle-Brothers), the Storm Warriors are diverted at the last moment by an order to snuff out a nascent rebellion on the world of Tesra IV. Calan is reluctant to have his Chapter get involved for fear of taking needless casualties. The arrival of Inquisitor Andrijssen allows him to accomplish his mission with no loss whatsoever to the Imperial forces.[93]

Jubal Khan[103b] Jubal Khan has fought countless aliens and battles. One of his greatest achievements was during the Jopal Uprising. He led the First Brotherhood in several raids and strikes against the enemy supply and communication lines. Such was the devastation that the enemy were forced to divert large numbers of troops to deal with the White Scars, allowing the Imperial Guard to batter through the weakened front lines and end the insurrection. Jubal Khan also led his Chapter in the Third War for Armageddon, where the White Scars operated both on Armageddon and on the surrounding Ork held worlds. They were successful at disrupting the Orks and holding back assaults, allowing Imperial garrisons to prepare.[103b]
