Skitarii Praetorian

Skitarii Praetorians are a type of Skitarii warrior, that are the elite guard of the Mechanicum and its domains.^[1a]

Description

They are heavily bionically augmented, approaching the size of a Space Marine and are heavily armoured.^[1c] However Praetorians begin their transformations as adults, instead of as children and the Mechanicum use them as walking test beds for the Imperium's rediscovered technologies. Among the Praetorians' standard augmentations are brain-stem implants, neuro-linked processors and alloy reinforced skeletons.^[2] They are also stimulated in the heat of battle by a variety of combat drugs, which are so strong that within 15 minutes of usage the Praetorians' muscles and tissues will begin to break down. Until that point however, they are immune to all but the most serious injuries.^[1c] For armament, they are normally equipped with a Power Claw and Rotary Cannon-style weapon.^[1b] When compared to Space Marines, Praetorians can only blindly follow simple orders and are unable to take initiative for themselves.^[1a] However their devotion to the Mechanicum's Omnissiah makes the Praetorians truly zealous combatants, who will fight to the death to enforce the Machine God's will. Because of their nature, Praetorians are used as fearsome terror troops against the Mechanicum's enemies.^[2]
