Stoneborn
The Stoneborn were an prestigious formation within the Ironwing of the Dark Angels Legion during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy.[1]
Overview
Composed of the single largest concentration of Terminators within any of the Legions, these elite warriors fielded a number of experimental patterns of armour unknown in the panoply of other forces. Their ranks commonly consisted of Veterans who once served within the Host of Stone, who retained their old emblems and assumed the title of Stoneborn within their service to the Ironwing.[1]
The Stoneborn were often employed en masse to storm fortresses or repel the onslaught of the enemy, and these warriors earned a fearsome reputation within the Legion. However, the brutal attrition of the early years of the Horus Heresy would decimate the ranks of these valiant warriors, ever first in attack or defence of the Legion, and by the end of the rebellion the Stoneborn were a shadow of their former strength.[1]
